Sport

Sport

We offer a range of co-curricular sports activities which complement the Physical Education curriculum offered at The Laurels. Since moving to our new site, we have been able to make full use of our own sports fields and courts, situated within the grounds, as well as a large indoor gym.

Co-Curricular Sport

In addition to the comprehensive Physical Education provision we have an active co-curricular sport programme. This consists of regular squad practice for netball and football teams and for pupils who are interested in training in a team environment. The squad sessions are planned to the highest of standards and led by our dedicated PE teachers.

Competitive Sport

We actively encourage pupils to take part in competitive events such as the Lambeth School Competition Calendar, the London Schools Competition Calendar and County Competitions in a wide variety of sports such as : badminton, basketball, cross country running, indoor rowing, netball, sports hall athletics, swimming, trampolining and volleyball. Every pupil at The Laurels is given the opportunity to compete in these events. The annual Sports Day in July is held on our own grounds and all pupils take part in a field, track or relay event.

Physical Education Trips

Termly trips are designed to widen the understanding of physical activity, fitness and sport. A trip each term focuses on either a live sporting event, experiencing and learning a new sport, an opportunity to be coached by an elite athlete, to meet athletes from a range of sports or to tour specialist sports facilities. Recent events have included meeting Tamara Rojo, Artistic Director and Lead Principal Dancer of English National Ballet and rowing coaching at Eton College Rowing Club.
