Extended Project Qualification - VI Form

Subjects

EPQ

We encourage our students to undertake the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) in the VI form. This is a self-directed and self-motivated study based on an area of personal interest. This may be an extension of a subject they are studying or might be related to a different subject. The EPQ can take the form of an extended essay or an artefact with an academic research rationale.

UCAS points are awarded upon the completion of an EPQ and vary depending on the grade awarded. Universities actively look for students who have undertaken an EPQ as it demonstrates independent research skills and originality of thought. Many students relate their EPQ to their future studies and career.

Pupils at The Laurels have taken on various topics including the following:

  • ‘What makes biological altruism a sustainable survival strategy?’
  • How did the Nazis use propaganda to influence German people’s beliefs, feelings, and actions?
  •  Is It Ethical To Use Psychological Tricks To Increase Productivity in The Workplace?
  • What was J. R. R. Tolkien influenced by during his creation of Middle-Earth?
  • To what extent has CAR – T cell therapy improved the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia?
